What does Sensational Minds offer?

We offer neurodevelopmental assessments: autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia (SPLD) for children and adults, along with coaching, family support, school and university training, workplace training, planning and online learning. Our aim is to help neurodivergent people feel understood, supported and better able to navigate the world successfully.

Are your assessments recognised by schools, employers and local authorities?

Yes. All our assessments follow NICE guidelines and use gold-standard tools COMPLETED BY A . SpLD assessments meet SASC and APC standards.

Do you only offer assessments?

No. Assessments are only one part of what we do. We also offer coaching, family support, training and practical guidance so that people are not left with answers on paper but no real help with what comes next.

Do you assess both children and adults?

Yes. We offer assessments for both children and adults.

How do we know which assessment is right?

If you are not sure which assessment is the right fit, we can help you work that out through our free screening process.

Do we need a referral?

Not always. For Autism and ADHD assessments, we need a referral from a GP, health professional, or SENCO. For Specific Learning Difference (SpLD) assessments, including dyslexia, you can self-refer.

How long do assessments take?

The length depends on the type of assessment. For example, Autism assessments may involve several sessions, while SpLD assessments are usually completed in one 2–3 hour session. We will outline the exact process and timings before you start.

Do you offer appointments online as well as face to face?

Yes. We offer both online and face-to-face appointments, depending on the service and what is most appropriate for the person being assessed or supported. In-person sessions take place at The Chill Out Centre in Colchester.

How soon will I get my report?

Autism assessments: within 4 weeks of your feedback session

ADHD assessments: within 5 days of the assessment

SpLD assessments: within 4–6 weeks of your feedback session

What makes Sensational Minds different?

We believe neurodivergent people deserve to be understood in a way that recognises their individuality, strengths and needs. Our work is not just about assessment, but about helping people navigate the world more successfully and supporting families, education settings and workplaces to create environments where neurodivergent people can thrive.

What kind of support do you offer for schools and universities?

We offer training and guidance to help teachers, staff and settings better understand and support neurodivergent pupils and students. This can include practical strategies, staff development and planning around individual needs.

Do you offer workplace training and planning?

Yes. We support workplaces with training and planning to help create more understanding, more confidence and better support for neurodivergent employees.

Do you offer online training?

Yes. We offer online training for people who want flexible access to learning and guidance.

Do you offer coaching and family support?

Yes. We know that understanding neurodivergence is only part of the picture. People often also need support with day-to-day life, relationships, confidence and practical next steps, which is why we offer coaching and family support as well.

What happens after an assessment?

We do not see assessment as the end of the process. We want you to come away with clearer understanding, useful recommendations and a better sense of what support may help next.

Will we just get a report and be left to work it out ourselves?

No. Our approach is designed to give you practical understanding and next steps, not just a report on a page.

Can you help if we have had an unhelpful experience elsewhere?

Yes. Many people come to us because they want a more thoughtful, personal and useful experience. We know how important it is to feel heard, understood and taken seriously.

Are your services only for people who are certain they want an assessment?

No. You may already know what you are looking for, or you may simply know that something does not feel straightforward. We can help you take the next step with more clarity.

How do we get started?

You can start by requesting a free screening or getting in touch.
