Our screening process is free. This is to ensure that an assessment is likely to be a helpful path for you or your child.

Gold-standard ADHD assessments

Our ADHD assessments for children and adults are fully NICE compliant and follow the highest levels of clinical governance.

For adults, they can be done virtually. For children, they are part online and part in person.

To begin, we require a referral from a GP, another health professional, or a SENCO.

Once accepted, we ask for a pre-assessment questionnaire to be completed for children. It asks for information from you as parents or carers, the child (where appropriate), and their school.

For adults, the questionnaire is filled in by you, and an informant who has known you for most of your life, such as a parent or sibling.

All children’s assessments include a school visit to observe attention, focus, and regulation in a real-world setting. If they're not in school, we still do a face-to-face assessment.

Adult assessments include mental health screening tools and the involvement of at least two clinicians.

There is a virtual element to all ADHD assessments, completed with our clinical lead.

Every case is carefully reviewed in advance to ensure our virtual model is suitable.

Reports are issued within five days of the assessment, followed by a 30 minute virtual feedback session to discuss the findings and next steps.

Cost

£1550 (child assessment)

£1550 (adult assessment)

Sometimes a full mental health assessment is needed in order to support the assessment process. We need to make sure there are no other factors that could be playing a part so this is to ensure we give you the fullest and most useful assessment possible, If we think this is needed, we let you know beforehand and there is an additional fee of £450 for this.

Questions people often ask about ADHD assessments

What is an ADHD assessment at Sensational Minds?

An ADHD assessment at Sensational Minds is designed to help you understand whether ADHD may be part of the picture for you or your child in a way that feels thoughtful, respectful and genuinely useful. We do not believe you should be left with a tick-box experience or more unanswered questions. We want you to come away with clearer insight, a better understanding of day-to-day challenges, and a stronger sense of what may help next.

Who do you offer ADHD assessments for?

We offer ADHD assessments for children, young people and adults. â€‹

Do you offer ADHD assessments online?

Yes, we do offer online ADHD assessments where appropriate, particularly for some adults. At the same time, we know online assessment is not the right fit for everyone, especially for many children. That is why we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Do children have to be in school for you to assess them face to face?

No. If your child is not in school, we can still carry out a face-to-face assessment. We know that some children are unable to cope with school, are out of education, or simply would not be well served by an online-only process. That does not mean they should miss out on a thorough assessment. We need to build as full a picture as possible of how your child presents in different environments, rather than relying on one setting alone.

How do we know if an ADHD assessment is right for us?

You may be noticing difficulties with attention, focus, impulsivity, overwhelm, emotional regulation, restlessness, organisation or everyday functioning. You may also simply feel that something has never quite made sense. You do not need to arrive with certainty. If you are looking for clarity, an assessment may be the right next step.

What happens during an ADHD assessment?

We take time to explore the full picture, including background, current experiences and the ways attention, regulation and everyday life may be affected. We want the process to feel thorough and meaningful, so you leave with more than a label. You leave with understanding.

Will you only look at ADHD?

No. We know people are not simple, and experiences do not always fit neatly into one box. We consider the wider picture so that what you receive feels thoughtful rather than oversimplified.

What happens if ADHD is identified?

If ADHD is identified, we help you understand what that means in real life, not just on paper. That may include thinking about support, practical strategies and what comes next for you or your child.

What happens if ADHD is not identified?

If ADHD is not identified, that does not mean your experiences are not real or that your concerns were misplaced. We still want you to come away with a clearer understanding of what may be going on and what support could be helpful.

Will we just get a report and be left to figure it out?

No. We know that a report on its own does not always make life easier. Part of our approach is making sure you are not left staring at a document wondering what to do next. We want the assessment to lead to clearer next steps and better understanding.

Do we need to be certain before booking?

No. You may strongly suspect ADHD, or you may simply know that things do not feel straightforward. You do not need to have all the answers before coming to us. That is part of what the assessment is there to help with.
